Ashton-under-Lyne
- First mentioned in the 12th century.
- Granted a royal charter in 1414 – giving it the right to hold a market.

- There are nine Grade II listed buildings in Audenshaw.
- Home to Jones’ Sewing Machine Company.
- Known for its Reservoirs.
Denton
- Name means valley town from Anglo- Saxon.
- World famous for Felt Hatting and lead-acid batteries.
- Oldest building dates back to 1530’s St Lawrences Church.
Dukinfield
- The earliest evidence of human activity around Dukinfield comes from a collection of four flints from the late Neolithic/early Bronze Age.
- Hosts Tameside’s register office in the iconic Town Hall for births deaths and marriages.
Droylsden
- The first machine woven towel in the world was produced in Droylsden.
- Birth town to Robertsons Jam.
- Eric Evans, former England rugby union captain, was born in Droylsden in 1921.
Hyde
- Hyde United FC suffered the FA CUP record defeat of 26 – 0 in 1887 to Preston North End.
- Known for its suburbs Gee Cross, Godley, Newton, Flowery Field, Hattersley.
- Home town of Ricky Hatton.
Longdendale
- Known for the unexplained phenomenon of the Longendale Lights AKA the devils bonfire and urban legend says this is Roman Soldiers haunting the area.
- The name translates to Long Wooded Valley and has a chain of six reservoirs.
Mossley
- Twin town Hem and recognised as a fair trade town.
- Known as tri County town Mossley historically straddles Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire.
- Home to the world’s oldest chip shop.
Stalybridge
- The youngest of Tameside’s towns and affectionately known as Stalyvegas.
- Holds the Guinness World Records for longest and shortest pub names; the simply titled ‘Q Inn’ opposes ‘The Old Thirteenth Cheshire Astley Volunteer Rifleman Corps Inn’.
